From Sea to Shining Sea

Bullfrog Films

From Sea to Shining Sea documents the inspiring vision of what this country can be, in the writings of early 20th century poet Katharine Lee Bates, who wrote the words of “America,” that has become the patriotic anthem “America the Beautiful.”

During her career as a Wellesley College professor, author and journalist, Bates was outspoken in her support for the working class, women’s rights, defending immigrants and seeking brotherhood amongst all Americans—values reflected in the song we sing today.
This historical documentary of another turbulent period that inspired “America the Beautiful” reflects the American spirit declared 250 years ago.
